Towcester Museum

The Towcester Museum Trust is a registered charity founded in 2003 and dedicated to providing a quality museum and visitor centre for Towcester.

Located in the courtyard of a former Georgian coaching inn in the heart of historic Towcester, the museum provides a centre for tourism and historical information for the district and a much needed focal point for the exhibition, display and interpretation of the history of the Towcester district.

This heritage project comprises:

A series of modern museum galleries
A tourist information and visitor centre
A venue for temporary exhibitions
A museum shop
An educational and research facility
A facility for preserving local historic archives & artefacts

The Towcester Museum Project provides an important amenity and heritage asset that greatly enhances commercial and community activity within the town.

The People Behind Towcester Museum

TRUSTEES: Our organisation consists of six trustees. The Trustees meetings take place once a month and interpretive meetings every six weeks.

VOLUNTEERS: The museum depends strongly upon its volunteers of which there are over 20.

FRIENDS: There is also a Friends of the Museum, which undertakes fundraising and promotional activities. The Friends have over 80 members who meet on an ad hoc basis and (at the end of July 2010) have raised over £12,000 towards this project.

SUPPORTERS: There is also the Towcester 100 Club which provides financial support.

Our Location

The Towcester Museum and Visitor’s Centre is situated in White Horse Yard, Towcester.

The Museum is housed in a listed building in the conservation area of Towcester that was originally part of a Georgian coaching inn.
